IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS
CURRENTLY WE ARE STILL SUSPENDING ALL IN-PERSON DRILLS AND ACTIVITIES DUE TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS. WE ARE ASSESSING THE SITUATION WEEKLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, LOCAL NAVY STAFF AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. WHEN WE RECEIVE AN ALL CLEAR WE WILL POST THAT INFORMATION. FOR NOW PLEASE FOLLOW THE FDR FACEBOOK PAGE FOR INFORMATION ON OUR VIRTUAL DRILLS AND TRAINING SESSIONS.
To FD Roosevelt and Training Ship Roosevelt Cadets and Families:
We received word from the national headquarters for the US Naval Sea Cadets that all in-person drill activities are suspended for 30 days beginning today, 12 MAR 2020. You may also visit www.seacadets.org/covid19 for more information on how the USNSCC is responding to the situation. Given the size of our combined unit, I am in agreement with this decision as many public activities over 50 persons are being canceled for several weeks. Our combined units, plus new cadets and adult staff is in excess of 70 people.
For our unit, that will mean that the next two drills will be canceled as in-person trainings. We will begin working on rescheduling those two drills and activities that were to take place on those dates, including Annual Inspection and our New Cadet Onboarding.
March 21 - Annual Inspection, NAS Jax K-9 unit
April 04 - New Cadet Onboarding, Physical Readiness Testing (PRT)
April 18 - this will be our NEXT in-person drill unless otherwise notified. This is also the rescheduled date for the NCO.
Note - if you were scheduled to volunteer for the March 14 or March 16 Info Sessions, we will be doing those sessions via Facebook Live. At this time, cadets will not be permitted to assist with the Facebook Live Info Session under national orders. All prospective cadet candidates will be notified by email of the alternate plans.
We will be working and monitoring HQ in Virginia on summer training plans. As of now, all summer trainings are still going to be conducted as planned EXCEPT for the International Exchange Program which is expected to resume again next summer. We will keep you informed as plans are developed.
MONITOR YOUR EMAILS FROM THE UNIT - we will be rolling out some alternative web-based training through HQ or that we prepare locally in which you will be expected to participate! If you do not have access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, please reply to this email indicating as such.
In the absence of formal web-based training for these two drills, we are asking to support your cadet in keeping their schedule committed to these two dates/times and use some or all of the time to complete coursework and engage in physical training, uniform maintenance or other learning tasks. Many of you still need to complete the BMR and other coursework to prepare for summer training - this would be a good time to take care of this.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding in a highly unusual situation for our organization. The safety of our unit and those people who may come in contact with members of our unit are of utmost importance.
